Each BellaTek Encode healing abutment is laser-engraved with screw grooves and dimple patterns that uniquely identify the implant family, platform diameter, and abutment height. The full coding scheme + SKU matrix verified from ZimVie's ZVINST0023 Technical Guide.
Each BellaTek Encode healing abutment is laser-engraved with three identifying features that together encode the implant system, platform diameter, and abutment height. A certified Encode Empowered laboratory reads these codes from a digital scan and reconstructs the exact implant position — no separate scan body, no manual platform entry.
How to Read the Code (verbatim from ZVINST0023)
Per ZimVie's Encode Emergence Technical Guide (ZVINST0023): "Grooves on the occlusal surface of the screw identify the implant system. The number of dimples below the straight line on the occlusal abutment surface indicate the platform diameter. The number of dimples on the right side of the abutment's occlusal dome indicate the abutment height."

Reading the Dimples
Dimples on the top surface of the Encode are arranged in two distinct groups:
- Below the straight line — the dimple count encodes the implant platform diameter.
- On the right side of the occlusal dome — the dimple count encodes the abutment height (3, 5, or 7 mm).
ZimVie publishes the per-code visual map only inside the Encode Emergence Technical Guide (ZVINST0023, page 3) — there are no separately-hosted per-code PNG files. Open the PDF for the side-by-side dimple-pattern → diameter legend.

Compatible Scanners & Workflow
- 3Shape TRIOS — native (TRIOS Inbox path in 3Shape Dental Manager).
- Other intraoral scanners exporting STL — imported via 3Shape Dental Manager "Import scan" (per ZVINST0213).
- Traditional PVS impression + stone model — scanned on a 3Shape lab scanner with Adesso Split mounting plates.
- Decoding software: ZimVie RealGUIDE Encode Converter (free; decodes both legacy Encode and new Encode Emergence). Library export available for RealGUIDE CAD, Zfx, exocad, 3Shape, Dental Wings.
- Scan protocol: Healing abutment must sit 1–2 mm above soft tissue with codes clearly visible — no rips, tears, bubbles, or distortion. Three-point alignment uses three dot positions on the codes against the virtual library reference.
Trabecular Metal (TM) note: TM uses the Certain interface but does not appear in the ZVINST0023 Encode Emergence Code Map. Call 3DL at (248) 919-7929 to confirm Encode availability for TM cases before submission.

Clinical Notes & Considerations
- TSX (launched 2020) is ZimVie's newest aggressive-thread tapered implant. Designed for Type IV / soft bone with high primary stability for immediate loading protocols. Shares the ZimVie internal hex prosthetic interface with TSV / TSVT / TSVM / Trabecular Metal — same scan body family, abutments, and prosthetic components apply at matching platform diameter (3.7, 4.1, 4.7 mm).
- Eztetic uses a smaller-diameter internal hex than TSV — scan bodies are NOT interchangeable between Eztetic 3.1 and TSV/TM 3.7+.
- TSV, TSVM, TSVT, Trabecular Metal, and TSX all share the Zimmer internal hex prosthetic interface — one scan body family per platform diameter covers them.
- T3 / Certain is a different connection (Biomet 3i lineage) — requires a Certain-specific scan body, not interchangeable with TSV.
- BellaTek Encode is a separate coded healing-abutment workflow — see /implant-systems/encode-empowered.
3DL Workflow for ZimVie Cases
- Identify the component before submission. Call (248) 919-7929 or message through the doctor portal — 3DL verifies the ZimVie implant line, platform diameter, and the correct scan body family at no charge.
- Scan with any major IOS. Upload the scan through the doctor portal. 3DL confirms receipt the same day and validates the scan body capture before any milling begins.
- 3DL designs in matched pairs. Custom abutment and final crown are designed together so the emergence profile of the abutment supports the crown's gingival contour exactly.
- Mill, finish, ship. Custom titanium or zirconia abutment plus final crown ship together in 7 to 10 business days. Verification jig included on request.
