Anatomic Healing Abutment XC (AHA) — 2-in-1 Healer + Scan Body
Straumann's AHA XC is a single-component prosthetic part that combines a healing abutment with an integrated scan body. It eliminates the need to swap a healing abutment for a separate scan body at the impression visit — preserving the peri-implant soft-tissue seal.
Per Straumann documentation, the Anatomic Healing Abutment XC (AHA) "eliminates the need to use a separate healing abutment and scanbody, which reduces multiple disconnections and reconnections of prosthetic components." The AHA is scanned directly intraorally with no removal step, and an IOS-readable identification code on the AHA encodes the component type so the lab can identify it from the STL file.
Compatible Implant Lines
- BLX — Bone Level X (RB and WB platforms)
- BLC — Bone Level Conical (RB and WB platforms)
- BLT — Bone Level Tapered (XC configuration)
Sizes & Shapes
- 4 anatomic shapes: S, S1, M, XL
- 4 platform diameters
- 2 gingiva heights
- Standardized 3 mm abutment height above the defined gingival level
Workflow
- Place implant; seat AHA at surgical or healing reveal.
- Heal — tissue heals around the anatomic emergence profile.
- Scan — at the impression visit, intraorally scan the AHA in situ. No swap.
- Design — lab opens the STL, reads the encoded ID, designs the restoration on the exported library position.
Key Advantages
- No swap of healing abutment for scan body — preserves peri-implant soft tissue seal.
- Anatomic emergence profile pre-defined from day of surgery.
- Encoded ID visible to the lab in the STL file — eliminates manual platform entry.

iEXCEL™ System — Unified Implant Platform (BLC / BLX / TLC / TLX)
Straumann's 2025 unified implant system — four implant designs (BLC, BLX, TLC, TLX), one TorcFit prosthetic connection per platform tier, one surgical kit. Launched at IDS Cologne March 2025.
Straumann iEXCEL is a unified implant platform family launched at IDS Cologne in March 2025 (pre-launched October 2023). It is not a single new implant line — it brings together four implant designs (BLC, BLX, TLC, TLX) under one common surgical kit, one TorcFit prosthetic connection per platform tier, and a single Roxolid + SLActive material specification. The result: one inventory, one driver tray, one prosthetic component family per platform diameter, with two macrogeometries and both bone-level / tissue-level options on demand.
The Four Implant Designs
| Design | Macrogeometry | Position | Diameters (mm) |
|---|---|---|---|
| BLC | C-design (tapered, slim apex) | Bone Level | 3.3, 3.75, 4.5, 5.5, 6.5 |
| BLX | X-design (Dynamic Bone Management) | Bone Level | 3.5–6.5 |
| TLC | C-design (tapered, slim apex) | Tissue Level | 3.3, 3.75, 4.5, 5.5, 6.5 |
| TLX | X-design (Dynamic Bone Management) | Tissue Level | NT, RT, WT platforms |
One Connection — TorcFit
- BLC + BLX share the TorcFit connection on the RB (Regular Base, Ø 3.3 / 3.75) and WB (Wide Base, Ø 4.5 / 5.5 / 6.5) platforms.
- TLC + TLX share the TorcFit connection on the NT / RT / WT tissue-level platforms.
- The shorter internal TorcFit (3 mm vs. 4.6 mm CrossFit on BLT) is what enables Straumann's 6 mm bone-level implants.
Cross-Compatibility
- BLC ↔ BLX: ✅ same TorcFit, same prosthetic components within the matching RB/WB platform.
- TLC ↔ TLX: ✅ same TorcFit, same prosthetic components within the matching NT/RT/WT platform.
- BL / BLT (CrossFit): ❌ NOT compatible — different connection geometry.
- Tissue Level Standard / synOcta: ❌ NOT compatible.
- Strict rule from Straumann: never use WB abutments on RB implants; never mix across NT/RT/WT.
Indications by Design
- C-design (BLC / TLC) — slim apex for less invasive treatments, bone preservation, esthetic outcomes. Ø 3.75 mm cleared for all tooth positions.
- X-design (BLX / TLX) — Dynamic Bone Management for challenging extraction sockets, defective sites, soft bone, immediate placement and immediate loading protocols.
- Tissue level (TLC / TLX) — soft-tissue stability with the implant-abutment interface above bone, for reduced inflammation/resorption risk.
Prosthetic Components
iEXCEL does not introduce a new prosthetic interface. Scan bodies, abutments, and SRA multi-unit components are shared with the existing Straumann TorcFit catalog:
- Same scan bodies / impression posts across BLC ↔ BLX (RB or WB) and across TLC ↔ TLX (NT / RT / WT).
- Same abutments (titanium, custom milled, zirconia hybrid) per platform tier.
- SRA (Screw-Retained Abutments) and Multi-unit family compatible.
- CARES Mono Scanbody at the matching platform applies (see scan body chart above).
Final Torque
35 Ncm for final abutment seating — same as the rest of the Straumann TorcFit / CrossFit lineup. Insertion torque ≥ 35 Ncm is the minimum recommended for immediate function protocols.
Material & Surface
- Roxolid (titanium-zirconium alloy) — across the full system. BLX optionally available with SLA.
- SLActive hydrophilic surface — standard.

|---|---|
| Final abutment screw | 35 Ncm |
| Healing abutment | 15 Ncm |
| Multi-unit abutment screw | 35 Ncm |
| Prosthetic screw | 15 Ncm |
Per Straumann Prosthetic Torque postcard, 35 Ncm applies across BL, BLT, BLX, TLX, and Tissue Level synOcta. Multi-unit abutment seats at 35 Ncm; the occlusal/prosthetic screw on top is 15 Ncm.

Clinical Notes & Considerations
- CARES Mono Scanbody is one-piece — no separate screw; do not torque beyond 15 Ncm per Straumann.
- BL and BLT share the CrossFit connection (SC/NC/RC scanbodies are interchangeable across BL and BLT at matching platform).
- BLX/TLX share the TorcFit connection (RB/WB scanbodies interchangeable BLX↔TLX at matching base).
- synOcta tissue-level requires a different scan body family; do not substitute CrossFit scan bodies.
3DL Workflow for Straumann Cases
- Identify the component before submission. Call (248) 919-7929 or message through the doctor portal — 3DL verifies the Straumann implant line, platform diameter, and the correct scan body family at no charge.
- Scan with any major IOS. Upload the scan through the doctor portal. 3DL confirms receipt the same day and validates the scan body capture before any milling begins.
- 3DL designs in matched pairs. Custom abutment and final crown are designed together so the emergence profile of the abutment supports the crown's gingival contour exactly.
- Mill, finish, ship. Custom titanium or zirconia abutment plus final crown ship together in 7 to 10 business days. Verification jig included on request.
